Unscheduled downtime [resolved]

Dear all,

http://chilp.it and http://chilp.me are currently down,
there seems to be a problem at the DC. We are looking into it.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Update: Why not take a look at http://uptime.chilp.net while waiting?
Update II: We are back up, the problem has been taken care of. The power supply of the main server needed to be changed.

Feel free to contact me to get a more detailed update and probably a beer too.

Cheers,

Unscheduled downtime [resolved]

Dear all,

http://chilp.it and http://chilp.me are currently down, we are looking into it.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Update: Feel free to take a look at http://uptime.chilp.net
Update II: We are setting up a read-only server to start serving redirects again. Hanging in there.
Update III: Our provider confirms a power cut and is working on it: “The room was cut! We are on the site to reboot the room.”
Update IV:  We are still experiencing problems with the server config and are trying to resolve it.
Update V: Services are coming back to life. Thanks a lot for your patience.

Final update: All services have been restored. No short URL’s have been harmed in the procedure.

Feel free to contact me to get a more detailed update and probably a beer too.

Cheers,
Zalt

Uh-oh [Update]

Dear all,

our happy sites http://chilp.it and http://chilp.me are currently down and, to be honest, it’s my fault.
Well, I moved a couple of OTHER domains from one hosting company to another today and I “accidently” changed the A record of those two sites, too.

I already reverted the changes but it might take some time to propagate to your favorite DNS server since the TTL was set to 10800 seconds at that time.

I am very sorry for the trouble.

Update: Traffic is coming back. Happy shortening!

Cheers,
Zalt

Open problem: Downtime [Solved]

Chilp.it is currently down due to our provider’s sudden need to terminate all services.

Just to let you know: We are heavily working on bringing the site back to life!
We are very sorry for the inconvenience.

No previously generated short URLs will be harmed or lost!

Update: We ordered fresh and strong servers and will restore services soon. All short URLs will soon redirect to the wished destinations. Stay tuned.

Update II: The servers are in place, we are currently restoring the databases.

Update III: As soon as the databases are restored the DNS will be switched to the new server destinations.

Update IV: DNS has changed to the new IPs, services are slowly restoring. Stats and preview are still down.

Update V: All services are fully restored. Thanks a lot for your patience.

Cheers,
Jessica

Open problem: Downtime [Update]

Chilp.it is currently experiencing a rather long downtime, our provider is actively looking into it. There seems to be a serious network problem.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Update: The service is back again, we’re still waiting for a good explanation.
Update II: One of the main servers was suffering from a severe mainboard failure and needed to be replaced. Fair enough.

It’s all good now.

Scheduled downtime: 2010-11-05, 23:30-08:00 [Update]

Just to let you know: Our happy servers will physically move to a new and fresh datacenter tonight. There will be a scheduled downtime of the Chilp it! service between 23:30 and 8:00 o’clock (GMT+1).
We are very sorry for the inconvenience!

Well, why not just sit tight and hang in there? We’ll do pretty much the same… :-)

Cheers,
Zalt

Update: All services are up and running again (2010-11-06, 08:52).

Open problem: OpenDNS issues [Solved]

OpenDNS recently tagged our happy shortener as a phishing site within their service which caused a lot of trouble for us. Even though they were not directly reachable for further comments we managed to get hold of them very quickly via Twitter.

@OpenDaniel responded extremely fast and resolved the issue. Thanks again, OpenDNS, for sorting that out.

Keep up the good work!

Open problem: Connectivity issues [Solved]

A few users might encounter random connectivity issues since our network provider recently “lost” one of his upstream providers. Well, good luck with the search…

Update: Anyway, NOC is rerouting traffic and it should be all good pretty soon.

Update II: Oh, those folks lost not one but two upstream providers. Bad luck. But, service seems to be restored.

Open problem: Twitter is breaking Chilp.it links, again [Solved]

Since a few hours, Twitter is breaking links shortened with Chilp.it on user pages. As a result, users aren’t able to click that particular link anymore. The link itself is perfectly alright and valid, Twitter just breaks it for some unknown reason.

This is how it looks like right now on user pages:

It is all good through the search, though:

2009-12-02_TwitterII

We opened a ticket but didn’t receive any response from Twitter so far.
Sorry for the inconvenience, those folks will hopefully fix this asap.

Thanks a lot.

Update: 24 hours later, still no response. We aren’t too happy with the way Twitter handles those things.

Update II: Other users who are not using Chilp.it are reporting broken links too. Check out http://twitter.com/travel_tour.

Update III: Finally, Twitter is aware of the bug. Check the Twitter Development Talk.

Update IV: Seven days later the problem still exists. We are as unhappy as you are.

Update V: Please look here!
